As the country edges closer to another round of national voting, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is conducting an intensive 11-day training session for key electoral staff at Otjiwarongo.
In preparation for the supplementary registration of voters, Regional Electoral Officers, IT and Logistics Officers, and Supervisors of Registration are undergoing training.
Addressing them, ECN's chairperson Dr. Elsie Nghikembua reminded participants of the weight of national trust that rests on their shoulders.
"Our commitment to democracy has never been more vital," she said, adding that "This training is about equipping you with the tools – legal, technical, and human – to uphold transparency, professionalism, and the law."
The training, she said, was designed not only to review the past but also to sharpen the Commission's readiness moving forward.
Officials will receive hands-on sessions, including filling out election forms, resolving common tech issues in the field, and deepening their understanding of the Electoral Act.
Performance during this training will determine who qualifies to serve during the actual elections.
Dr. Nghikembua urged participants to be physically, mentally and professionally fit for their work.
The supplementary registration of voters is scheduled for later this year.
