The Wagdaar settlement, located west of the DRC informal settlement on the outskirts of Swakopmund, has received two new light towers, marking the start of a project this week that symbolises hope and safety for its residents.
Donated by Swakop Uranium at a cost of N$80,000, these towers will illuminate the streets, creating a brighter and more welcoming environment while addressing rising concerns about crime.
The streets of DRC are often engulfed in darkness, making the area a hotspot for criminal activity. Many residents report feeling unsafe, even when attending night church services on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The absence of street lighting has restricted people's ability to move freely and participate in community activities after dark.
