Despite several visits and promises by political party representatives over the years, residents of Baboon City on the outskirts of Windhoek say they are only pleading for one basic necessity, water.

Plans are underway to relocate a number of households in Tsumeb's largest informal settlement to pave the way for construction of what will be the 'Kuvukiland' Kindergarten.

The council has conducted feasibility studies for sewerage reticulations and the availability of electricity and water for the community members.

The Otjiwarongo Municipality has entered into an agreement with the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) as part of its formalisation of five informal settlements.

The agreement will see the council issuing 2,605 landhold titles to build houses.

Twenty-eight families received keys to their new homes during a joyous occasion marking the completion of the first phase of the Informal Settlement Upgrading Pilot Project, which aims to build 113 houses.
