The Zambian Parliament yesterday debated the late Edgar Lungu's funeral impasse, with the country's Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, calling on the family to take charge.

In response to questions from members of parliament regarding the government's position, Nalumango stated that the family now holds sole responsibility for the funeral arrangements.

Others even questioned the legality of what they termed the "overkeeping" of the remains in a foreign land.

Yesterday, the family of the late Lungu issued a statement suggesting that the burial of the former head of state will take place in South Africa.

Family lawyer and spokesperson Makebi Zulu, however, did not indicate the actual burial date.

It is not yet clear whether the South African government has given a go-ahead or not.
