Namibia joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Music Day on Saturday, and music lovers had their dancing shoes on in Kalkfeld.

Music lovers from across the Otjozondjupa Region met in Kalkfeld to celebrate World Music Day.

Brass bands, choirs, hip hop and jazz singers were lined up to keep those in attendance entertained.

Martin Bayer is the director of the Franco Namibia Cultural Centre.

"It's a very good mix, a very good blend, and that's what World Music Day is about, so I hope you enjoy, and I hope there will be a lot of inspiration for the very young people. Maybe you will feel encouraged to take an instrument yourself or to sing with the choir of your community."

Otjozondjupa Governor Julius ||Khamuseb showed the youngsters how they used to enjoy music in years gone by.

"Music resonates, dear, with each of us. It is a language that requires no translation; it communicates joy, pain, hope, love, resistance and belonging in the ways that words alone often cannot."

This year's World Music Day was held under the theme :Healing Through Harmony.
