Ongwediva Constituency Councillor Andreas Uutoni, who is also the Chairperson of the Oshana Regional Council, says he will not contest in the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities election slated for November.
Uutoni says he has done enough in serving the community of Ongwediva and Oshana, and he feels it is fitting to make way for the youth.
He joined politics at a young age in 1978, when he started as a Swapo Party mobiliser in the region.
He served on the Regional Council for ten years as the Councillor of Ongwediva Constituency and was a member of the National Council for two years before serving as the Chairperson of the Oshana Regional Council for three years.
Uutoni, who turned 60 earlier this year, says it is vital for leaders to learn to pave the way for others because remaining in leadership when it is time to retire does not set a positive example.
During his tenure, some of the key projects he focused on were rural electrification, water provision, community halls, infrastructure development, and sanitation.
