The new governor of the Erongo Region, Natalia |Goagoses, has pledged to eradicate poverty and inequality during her term of office.
|Goagoses arrived at the Swapo Party regional headquarters at Swakopmund, where members gave her a cheerful reception.
She is the first woman to be appointed as governor of Erongo.
The former Chief Regional Officer was born at Okombahe, a village in the Dâures constituency of Erongo.
She said the region is rich in resources, but not every resident is a beneficiary of that wealth.
"At the party level, all structures of the administrative machinery, starting from traditional authorities, local authorities, and regional councils. I will ensure that we address these inequalities and youth unemployment. And by the end of my term, hold me accountable. The poverty in the Erongo Region shall not be; it is going to be eradicated."
|Goagoses promised to be a unifying leader who would tackle elements of division in her party and at any level of regional development.
"The interest groups, of course, shall be vetted and are ready to assist provided we are united, provided the environment is attractive for investors and the friends of development in the sense that there is no corruption, there is no disunity, there are no infights, and financial prudence at every level is the order of the day."
The Deputy Secretary General of the Swapo Party, Uahekua Herunga, called on the members to refrain from unproductive activities.
"That is what we have to avoid at all costs. If the comrade is not doing well, go to that particular comrade and say, 'Comrade, I feel if we do it in this manner with this attitude'. It would be much better for the Swapo party."
Swapo Regional Coordinator Daniel Muhuura urged the new governor to ensure that the natural resources make a difference for the residents of the region.
