The Pastoral Cluster in Walvis Bay held a farewell ceremony for former Erongo Governor Neville Andre, marking the end of his leadership with a moment of reflection, appreciation, and spiritual support.
During the farewell ceremony, a pastor led prayers for Andre's future, asking for guidance and blessings as he embarks on the next stage of his journey.
As a symbol of gratitude and remembrance, the cluster presented him with a star-shaped trophy, representing the enduring light of his contributions and the positive legacy he leaves behind.
Appointed as governor on April 7, 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Andre stepped into the role during one of the most challenging periods in recent history.
Erongo was one of the regions hardest hit by the virus, with Walvis Bay emerging as an early epicentre.
Andre said that under his guidance, the region navigated strict lockdowns, economic disruption, and public health emergencies.
"I also want to really thank the church leaders; five years were not easy. Five years were difficult for me, but you were there. You prayed for me in your churches, you prayed, and you gave me confidence. If it were not for your prayers, I would not have succeeded or coped with the challenges that the region exposed me to throughout the five years. Erongo is one of the hardest areas in this country, but I made it through with your prayers and support. I don't know how, but God helped me. I therefore really want to thank you for standing by me and also praying for me throughout the time."
Andre urged church leaders to support and work hand in hand with the newly appointed governor of the Erongo Region, Natalia |Goagoses.
Mandeza Phiri, the Bishop of the Kingdom Vision Ministry, said in response, "Today we are gathered to express our deepest appreciation to our Governor Neville, whose term as a governor has come to an end, but whose impact will remain with us for many years to come. From the beginning of your tenure, you stood as a leader; you stood and showed what a leader truly is, not in titles but in action."
