In a move to address Namibia's land and housing challenges, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban and Rural Development and Land Reform has unveiled its strategic priorities for the next two years.

Speaking at the high-level gathering held at Swakopmund, the Chairperson of the Committee, Elifas Dingara, signalled a renewed commitment to fast-track land reform, strengthen oversight, and drive policies that promote equitable access to land and decent housing for all Namibians. 

Dingara highlighted key responsibilities, including developing transformative policies for agricultural land distribution, creating mechanisms to improve urban land use, and formulating strategies to address housing and sanitation challenges among disadvantaged communities.

He also reaffirmed the committee's role in assessing the impacts of international treaties and protocols on land and housing sectors. 

"I urge all Honourable Members and the Secretariat of this Committee to dedicate the necessary time, energy, and commitment to fulfil this critical national responsibility. As custodians of legislative oversight, let us contribute meaningfully toward the realisation of Vision 2030. As articulated by Her Excellency the President, and in light of the tangible progress achieved in recent months, we are inspired to build on this momentum through deliberate, coordinated, and results-driven parliamentary action."

Erongo Governor, Nathalia |Goagoses spotlighted the need to involve traditional authorities in land reform discussions and called on the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development to improve coordination with local councils.
