Former Miss Namibia, Cassia Sharpley, shared her journey with depression and how she survived three suicide attempts.

Speaking at the launch of the book ‘Unmasking Postnatal Depression’ by Morna Ikosa, Sharpley encouraged those going through the same to seek help.

"Depression came back, but I could handle it better. This experience occurred during my Miss Namibia journey. And I tried to work out healthier coping mechanisms. I'm also an athlete. I do bodybuilding as a profession. I did rugby and athletics at one point. I have to be honest in saying that when you overcome depression, it's not easy, but it's worth it," she said, adding that it is important to face your challenges. "And that's what I mean by 'do the hard things'. The hard part is not overcoming the depression. The hardest thing is having depression and doing it anyway. This is how I overcame depression: by relying on my faith in Jesus, his teachings, and the belief in the power that I rightfully have access to and can possess for myself."
