Former Deputy Minister of Finance Maureen Hinda-Mbuende has been appointed as the Interim Managing Director of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR).

She takes over from Victoria Sibeya, who has been serving as acting managing director since April this year.

Sibeya will now concentrate on her specialised expertise in the upstream petroleum sector, which is experiencing significant growth and momentum in Namibia.

The Board pointed out that Hinda-Mbuende's appointment is a strong fit for the organisation, citing her extensive expertise in finance, internal audit, governance and institutional management.

It says with a notable track record spanning both the public and private sectors, she is expected to bring invaluable experience and leadership to NAMCOR at a pivotal moment in its development.

In a statement, the Board emphasised that this move reflects the shareholder's continued commitment to supporting NAMCOR through a critical phase of operational stabilisation and strategic realignment.

The appointment is part of a broader effort to equip the national oil company with the leadership and resources necessary to enhance its performance and fulfil its mandate.

Hinda-Mbuende's appointment as Interim Managing Director is effective from this month and will last for a period of six months.
