The Governor of ||Kharas region, Dawid Gertze, has welcomed the planned rollout of the instant porridge feeding programme to the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in the region.

The initiative seeks to combat stunting among children and improve learning outcomes.

The ||Kharas Region has 92 Early Childhood Development Centres, serving about 3,294 children.

Of these, about 52 classified as vulnerable children are enrolled at seven ECD centres.

 He shared the sentiments during the courtesy call by a delegation from the Ministries of Education and Gender Equality at Keetmanshoop.

The delegation, led by Teofilus Nuugulu, also met with regional stakeholders to discuss logistics for distribution and storage facilities for 800 bags of the instant porridge.

He called for cooperation among stakeholders, adding that for the programme to succeed, everybody must take ownership.

The national instant maize porridge programme is funded by the European Union, with technical support from the World Food Programme.
