Vice President Lucia Witbooi has called upon the Kwe San community to always be open and engage with her office on developmental projects within their areas and critical issues that affect their daily lives.

The Vice President underscored the government's commitment to treating the marginalised community equally with all Namibians.

Witbooi visited the Kwe San community living at Omega 3 to introduce herself to the community there and encourage them to take their rightful position in society.

She emphasised that the government is committed to the integration of the San community into the mainstream economy of the country.

The Kwe San community informed the Vice President of the high unemployment rate in particular among those who reside in the Bwabwata National Park, despite abundant natural resources and tourism activities.

They also mentioned how they have been excluded from employment opportunities at the Ndoro Memorial hostel at Omega 3.

One of the Omega 3 headmen, Bornface Mbereko, stressed that the community petitioned the education director on this.

They also raised concern about the restriction on the community from accessing natural resources for their survival owing to parks' policies.

Zambezi Education Director Alex Sikume, who accompanied the Vice President, reassured the Kwe San community that their concerns of exclusion were heard and submissions have been made to rectify the situation.

Witbooi took time to visit some of the households to see how they are surviving.

She further told the community to allow the government to attend to their application for recognition as a traditional authority.
