With Tunisia's automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup now confirmed, the Brave Warriors are aiming for one of the four best runners-up spots to secure a place in the playoffs.
Their recent 3-0 victory over São Tomé and Príncipe has kept their hopes alive, despite currently sitting just outside the top four contenders. To qualify, Namibia needs to win their final two matches and hope other results go their way.
Here are the current standings for the best runners-up playoff spots:
-
Gabon (Group B) - 18 points
-
Madagascar (Group I) - 16 points
-
DR Congo (Group B) - 16 points
-
Burkina Faso (Group A) - 15 points
Just outside the top four are:
-
Cameroon (Group D) - 15 points
-
Namibia (Group H) - 15 points
-
Uganda (Group G) - 15 points
-
Nigeria (Group C) - 11 points
-
Tanzania (Group E) - 10 points
If Namibia secures a top-four second-place finish, they will enter a four-team African playoff. The winner of this playoff will then advance to an inter-continental playoff, where the top two teams will earn a spot in the World Cup.
Following Tuesday's win, Brave Warriors head coach Collins Benjamin congratulated the team on their performance. He also highlighted Peter Shalulile's hat-trick, praising the striker's sharpness and the momentum the performance brings to the team.
The Brave Warriors will face Liberia and Tunisia next month in their final push for playoff qualification.
