A decade ago, neonatal care at the Rundu State Hospital was nonexistent. As a result, hundreds of babies died, leaving parents devastated.
However, NEO for Namibia was established to address this issue. NEO for Namibia is a charitable organisation that offers premature babies in the Kavango regions a chance to survive.
Any parent would agree that the last thing they want to see is their newborn hooked up to machines to survive while being fed through tubes.
That was until a couple from Switzerland started NEO for Namibia, an NGO which provided the hospital with essential neonatal care equipment while also training the local medical staff.
The result is the bouncing babies you see here today.
Matron at the Intermediate Hospital Rundu, Martina Hausiku, said NEO for Namibia's presence has changed the lives of parents, hospital staff, and, of course, the babies.
During the NGO's 10th anniversary, nurses from the neonatal intensive care unit recited the nursing pledge and released balloons into the air as a symbolic gesture for the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) angels and survivors.
