The Elenga Enene of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority has urged Ohangwena Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa to work in unison with traditional authorities to bring development to locals.

Ndilimani Iipumbu made the call during Hamutumwa's first engagement with the Uukwambi Traditional Authority leadership at Onamega Village.

Hamutumwa's visit forms part of the engagements she undertook since assuming office as the regional head with various traditional authorities that are part of the Ohangwena Region.

These are the Uukwambi, Ondonga, and Oukwanyama traditional authorities.

The engagement saw the Ohangwena regional leadership and the Uukwambi Traditional Authority engage in possible areas of cooperation needed to drive the government's agendas.

Elenga Enene Iipumbu informed the delegation that the traditional stands are ready to forge fruitful partnerships with the regional leadership and other partners to ensure that accelerated development that speaks to the needs of the people takes centre stage.

"I want us to go back to our roots of assisting one another. If the Ohangwena Region has some valuable natural resources that are not in Oshana or other regions, for example, if we want to produce local juice from Omauni fruits, the Ohangwena Region can allocate a certain portion for another region to harvest Omauni and produce juice, because we don't have that fruit in Uukwambi. The same is true for the Oshana Region, with its salt pan in Uukwambi and elsewhere; we can donate bags of salt to the Ohangwena Region."

The Ohangwena Governor also reiterated that the region and her office stand ready to drive positive change to assist Namibians both in urban and remote rural areas.

She pledged that the traditional authorities are working for a common cause, and therefore, where there is a good working relationship, it becomes easier to provide targeted interventions to assist the Namibian nation.

"As governors, we look at how our community is being assisted and also identify the needs of our regions, since every region has its own needs. For us to fulfil our mandate, we start from the grassroots level, which is the traditional authority. The government and the traditional authority are serving the same person; hence, it's crucial to come here today together with the regional leadership to engage with the chief and his leadership on how best we can assist the community."

The Governor is to visit seven more constituencies on her regional tour, these being Eenhana, Omundaungilo, Epembe, Omulonga, Ongenge, Engela and Ohangwena.
