On Wednesday, members of the National Assembly debated the quality of health practitioners produced by "mushrooming health training facilities" throughout the country.

They argue that some of the graduates are below the expected level and graduated from institutions unregistered by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and unrecognised by the Nursing Council.

MPs agreed that this is a crucial matter that needs to be dealt with, as these institutions are taking advantage of the desperate youth and are more interested in making money as opposed to providing quality training.

This, they say, also undermines and devalues the profession and results in the oversupply of graduates in an already saturated field.

The motion will be referred to the parliamentary standing committee for further investigation.
