The Governor of the Erongo Region, Natalia |Goagoses, is concerned about the potential duplication of government housing initiatives.

|Goagoses said this during the showcasing of land allocation by the October Seafarer United Land and Housing Federation (OSULHF) at Farm 37.

The governor acknowledged that having land in one's name, let alone a place to call home, is a fundamental step towards stability, security and prosperity.

She, however, expressed concern about the potential duplication of efforts.

"I am being asked to provide support and facilitate efforts for the central government. I have been asked to recommend that the central government provide support for this federation. Therefore, I don't want members of Walvis Bay who own other houses to come again and queue in this line because this must be members who are going to get houses, who are homeless. After all, the government will assist you."

The governor also made a call to fishing companies to "kindly and speedily invest in the employees by providing housing solutions because well-housed employees are more productive, motivated and loyal, which will eventually benefit the entire industry."

The Chairperson of OSULHF, Matthias Ndeulita, made it clear that the federation not only caters to the fishermen who were dismissed in 2015.

"The October Seafarers was formed to cater to all Namibian seafarers, and it will not be limited to Walvis; it will also extend to Swakop, Henties Bay, and Oranjemund."

The five-year-old federation has 880 members, of which 600 have signed sale agreements with the municipality of Walvis Bay.
