2 teams from Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in Namibia will take part in the Africa Skills Week programme in Ethiopia next week.

The programme is aimed at boosting skills in technical and vocational fields to respond to changing needs of the labour market.

2 out of 62 teams who came up with the best topics were selected, with the ideas being Support for Disabled Children in Namibia and Smart Water Tank Systems.

The 2 teams were from Khorixas and Valombola Vocational Training Centres.

The event will provide a platform for dialogue amongst innovators, sharing best practices and promoting inclusive participation, says Richard Kambinda, who is the Acting General Manager for TVET Transformation.

"Ensure that the project you have, the project that has made you come this far, you are able to represent it well when you are on that side. That you might even find people that can actually fund those projects. That it can be realised to be a business project. So when you think small, please remember, you can only achieve that small. But if you think big, you also achieve big."

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), Dino Ballotti, also shared some words of encouragement before sending off the 2 teams.

"You're ambassadors to Namibia, all of you. If you climb on that plane, we're even going to call you 'ambassador' as you climb on. And every conversation you have is to see how we can better our country. So to the colleagues that are going, the colleagues from NTA as well, we give you your marching orders that you are ambassadors. And I think it goes without saying that you're always representing your country and do so with pride."

The event will take place from the 13th to the 17th of October 2025.
