High youth participation in voting day was observed in Kapako Constituency in the Kavango West Region, where first-time voters expressed excitement to cast their votes.

Selma Gezi is optimistic that her vote counts despite the long queues.

“You have to wait, but the people are trying to make it and they are moving fast. We came to give our voices to the councillors that are the candidates.”

Damasius Kudumo also want change.

“After the voting, what I am expecting is that since we have seen our village is lacking a lot, we need some development.”

Jariuse Eino is confident that his vote counts.

“I just want my voice to be counted in the community and in the public service. This will really help our development in the community, our schools, and our health services.”

Hompa Alfons Kaundu of Mbunza Traditional Authority, as well as Governor Verna Sinimbo, also cast their votes.

Sinimbo appreciated the high turnout of the youth but calls on more young people to cast their votes.

“Young people often want to stay away from exercising their rights, but then they are the ones who like to complain. But how do you complain if you don't even make time to go and elect your leader? So they need to come. I really urge them to be part and parcel of this important exercise.”
