The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has issued a precautionary alert following forecasts of above-normal rainfall across the country, with the potential for flash floods.
The Secretary to the Cabinet, Emilia Mkusa, cautioned that the season may bring strong winds and lightning, posing risks to lives, infrastructure, crops, and property.
In a statement issued to the Regional Disaster Risk Management Committees, Mkusa urged all regions to immediately activate contingency measures.
This includes relocation of communities living in flood-prone areas to safeguard lives and ensuring early warning information is disseminated through all available regional platforms.
The Chairpersons of Regional Disaster Risk Management Committees were also asked to ensure the advisory reaches all sectors, local authorities and communities without delay to improve readiness for the 2025/2026 rainfall season.
The Namibia Meteorological Services says Namibia is expected to receive mixed rainfall from October 2025 to March 2026, with some areas already experiencing heavy rain and flooding.
