Katima Mulilo police are investigating a baby dumping case after a newborn girl was found at the entrance of the Katima Mulilo State Hospital administration block on Sunday evening.

A hospital staff member and security guard, alerted by her cries, discovered the baby wrapped in a blanket.

Soil and grass on her body suggest she was delivered in a nearby grassy area. The infant still had her umbilical cord attached and is now in the neonatal ward with no complications.

Efforts to trace the mother have failed so far, and Zambezi Police regional commander Andreas Shilelo urged anyone with information to contact police, promising a reward for tips that help locate her.

Shilelo assured that no criminal charges will be filed against the mother, as police aim only to reunite her with the baby.

Social workers from the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare have been notified, and arrangements are underway for a court order to place the baby at Zion Orphanage Home.
