A government delegation paid a condolence visit to the widow of the late Sam Nepando, deceased headman of Onelago Village in the Oshikoto Region.
Nepando was fatally shot on Friday at Iikokola.
The delegation comprised Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi; the Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, Wise Immanuel; Member of Parliament Willem Amutenya; and Onyaanya Councillor Nestor Shuuveni.
The delegation expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and conveyed the government's commitment to supporting the community during the mourning period.
Kathindi appealed to Namibians to refrain from taking the law into their hands and to sit around the table to find solutions to disagreements.
A police report indicates that Iikokola Village Headman I-Ben Nashandi, assistant headman Sam Nepando, and their secretary went to the suspect's house to engage him over a land dispute.
The suspect was reportedly ordered to reduce his mahangu field by bringing back the fence, which he refused to do.
It is further alleged that the engagement erupted into a disagreement when the suspect drew his pistol and shot the headman once in the abdomen before turning the gun on Nepando, shooting him in the abdomen as well.
Nepando succumbed to his injuries immediately.
The two men's secretary managed to escape the scene without injury and informed other villagers about the incident, which took place at the suspect's contested yard fence.
The 59-year-old suspect has been arrested, and the alleged murder weapon, a Baikal 9 mm pistol, was found discarded in the bush, away from the scene.
Police are yet to confirm whether the gun is licensed.
