MTC's rural school project initiative, aimed at ensuring learners' safe access to weather-resilient and dignified learning spaces across Namibia's 14 regions in partnership with the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, has officially handed over eight newly constructed classrooms at Shaanika Nashilongo Secondary School at Okahao in the Omusati Region.

Okahao Constituency Councillor Leonard Shikulo officiated the classroom handover on behalf of the Omusati Regional Governor Immanuel Shikongo.

Shikulo described the newly built classrooms as not mere walls and roofs but rather sanctuaries of knowledge, hope and opportunities, representing seeds of transformation that will bear fruit for generations to come, while commending the two institutions.

"I extend our deepest appreciation to the MVA Fund and MTC for this noble contribution. Your commitment to corporate social responsibility and investment in education is a shining example of how the private sector can complement government efforts in service delivery."

Paulus Kashiimbi is the regional director of education in the Omusati Region.

"Today's event is more than the opening of classrooms; it symbolises a shared vision for a brighter future, especially at the secondary school level, where access to a quality learning environment is crucial. It exemplifies how corporate entities and communities, stakeholders, can come together as a good example for social responsibility, setting a standard for others to emulate."

Tim Ekandjo is MTC's Chief Brand, Marketing, Communication and Sustainability Officer.

"So far, the MTC Rural School Project has invested an amount of N$18 million, and we have now completed the cycle of the 14 regions that we wanted to do. This year we will go to the Erongo Region, where we will assist three schools, which will now complete the 14 regions. What will then happen after the 14 regions are completed? We will then go to the worst affected regions in terms of the needs for classrooms and facilities."

Meanwhile, MVA Fund's Chief Corporate Affairs John Haufiku says that the decision to partner with MTC to construct the 8 classrooms aligns seamlessly with the MVA Fund's broader corporate social investment mandate.

"Today, the MVA Fund is proud to have contributed N$500,000 towards the construction of these 8 classrooms at this school. This investment is not merely an infrastructure; it is an investment in human potential, as the mayor has said, space to create dreams."
