Cooperation between Namibia and Iran continues to grow at the bilateral, continental, and multilateral levels.
The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Jenelly Matundu, said these partnerships aimed to strengthen collaboration and promote sustainable development, peace, and prosperity for both nations.
Iran was among the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Namibia after independence and supported its liberation struggle and fight against apartheid.
Speaking at the 47th anniversary of Iran's Islamic Revolution, Matundu described it as a moment of national reflection with broader global significance amid profound change.
She said Iran's history, like that of many Global South nations, reflects a pursuit of dignity, sovereignty, and prosperity in a complex world.
Matundu emphasised the need to continue strengthening cooperation through regular dialogue and collaboration across various sectors.
"Looking ahead, there is vast potential for both countries to deepen cooperation in key sectors such as oil and gas, mining, renewable energy, and agriculture. It is our hope that the historic ties between our two nations can be leveraged to build a prosperous future, built on mutual respect and shared aspirations for peace, prosperity and opportunity."
Iran's Ambassador to Namibia says the 1979 Islamic Revolution reflected Iran's determination to reclaim its independence and dignity.
Iran now ranks among regional leaders in science and technology, with strong achievements in innovation and a high number of science and engineering graduates.
Despite sanctions, the country has strengthened economic diversification and non-oil exports.
Mohammad Bagher Beigih added that 35 years of diplomatic ties with Namibia provide a strong foundation to expand trade and cooperation, welcoming greater participation in upcoming exhibitions.
"The draft of a number of documents has been exchanged to promote cooperation between the two parties in the political, consular, educational, youth, trade, and judicial fields, which we hope to be established after signing those during the exchange of the high-ranking delegations. The two countries also maintained close consultation on international issues, including shared positions on global justice and the humanitarian situation in the Middle East, especially Palestine; condemnation of the Israeli regime's aggressive actions in Gaza; and the need to end violence against civilians."
The Iranian government has reiterated its commitment to protecting national security while respecting citizens' rights.
