There is a need to expose learners to new technology and to keep up with new learning trends.

This was the call by Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge at the annual education stakeholders' conference at Ongwediva, meant for them to take stock and address challenges.

The Oshana Region was ranked 14th nationally in results for the Advanced Subsidiary level.

This is after 61% of learners there obtained passing symbols below the national average, at 64.33% in 2025.

The Oluno and Onamutai circuits performed best, achieving 76.3% and 71.4%, respectively.

At the National Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary level, the region ranked sixth nationally, with 36.4% of learners qualifying for AS.

The Oshana governor said education must evolve to keep up with the rapidly changing world of technology.

Iipinge noted that learners cannot compete effectively, whether nationally or globally, if they remain confined to outdated learning materials and limited digital access.

"We must expose our learners to updated curriculum support materials, digital learning platforms and online resources, science, technology, engineering and mathematics enrichment, research skills and critical thinking methodologies, and career guidance aligned to emerging economic sectors. If learners in other regions are exposed to robotics, coding, digital simulations and global knowledge platforms, and ours are not, then we must not be surprised by the results."

Iipinge expressed his commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to investigate potential digital support options for schools, especially those in rural areas.

"We must confront issues affecting performance such as absenteeism, substance abuse, poor discipline, low morale among educators, and socio-economic challenges affecting learners. As the office of the Governor, we are committed to supporting education through soliciting financial assistance for students who cannot afford registration, mobilising private sector partners to donate school chairs and learning materials and advocating for youth development and bursary opportunities."
