President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed respect and solemn reflection following the death of Reverend Jesse Jackson.
 
Jackson is a distinguished American civil rights leader and global advocate for justice and equality.

He died at the age of 84.
 
President Nandi-Ndaitwah said Jackson's death marks the end of a remarkable chapter in the global struggle for justice, equality, and human dignity.

She described him as a towering figure of the civil rights and anti-apartheid movements and a principled voice for the oppressed around the world.

In a statement, the President recalled Reverend Jackson's support for Namibia's liberation struggle during the years when SWAPO was leading the fight for independence.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah said that at a time when many Namibian comrades were mobilizing international solidarity, including in the US, Jackson stood among the principled voices within the American civil rights movement who supported that just cause.

That solidarity, she says, extended during difficult times, will always be remembered with gratitude by Namibians.The President extended condolences to Jackson's family, the civil rights movement in the US, and the American people during this time of mourning.
