SWAPO stalwart Erkki Nghimtina was laid to rest this morning at the Eenhana Memorial Shrine in the Ohangwena Region. The former minister passed away at his home in Edundja Village on February 8th at the age of 78.

Mourners joined Vice President Lucia Witbooi, Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa, First Gentleman Denga Ndaitwah, service chiefs, and cabinet ministers to pay their final respects to the fallen liberation hero.

As the first of the 17-gun salute rang out while the casket was lowered, emotions overcame those in attendance - a final goodbye to a man honoured for his lifelong contribution to Namibia, both before and after independence.

At a memorial service on Friday, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah described Nghimtina as a courageous leader driven by an unwavering purpose to serve both his party and the government.
