Efforts to strengthen wildlife protection and environmental monitoring in the Namib-Naukluft National Park have received a boost following a donation of radio communication equipment by mining company Langer Heinrich Uranium.

Langer Heinrich Uranium handed over the radio communication equipment worth N$630,000 to the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) to support conservation efforts in the park.

The Environmental, Social, and Governance Manager at Langer Heinrich, Bertram Swartz, said the equipment will assist wardens in carrying out duties more effectively.

He noted that the communication system will now provide coverage across more than eight hundred thousand hectares, significantly improving monitoring, coordination and response capabilities in the vast protected area.

Swartz added that the contribution reflects the company's commitment to responsible environmental management and its partnership with the government in protecting Namibia's natural heritage.

"On behalf of Langer Heinrich Uranium and its shareholders, I extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism's team for their dedication and invaluable work they do. As we continue to grow with our community, we remain committed to contributing meaningfully to environmental protection and long-term sustainability."

The equipment is expected to enhance the ability of park wardens to safeguard wildlife, protect visitors and strengthen environmental conservation efforts of Namibia's largest national park.

The Deputy Director of Wildlife and National Parks is Martin Kasaona.

"With the radio installation now they communicate well; it's very proper communication, so it enhances anti-poaching operations, and somehow now it's reducing poaching activities. And one thing which is also critical or important is we are in the process now of including more radio channels because of the neighbours so that there can be enhanced coordination with neighbouring farms, which are part of or will improve neighbour relations."
