Namibia boasts a youthful demographic, with 71% of its population under the age of 35, and a considerable portion of this group being 14 years old or younger.

This information was disclosed by the Corporate Communications Manager at the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), Ipumbu Sakaria, during an information sharing session at the Government Information Centre (GIC).

Sakaria further stated that the number of elders is decreasing drastically.

"Those that are above 60 years of age are roughly only 7% of the population, which is quite a very interesting datum."

He further states that this is because 72% of the nation was born after 1990, which emphasises youthfulness.

He further says, according to data |Khomas and the Erongo region received the highest number of migratory influxes.

"So your |Khomas and Erongo are the two regions that attract the largest influx of people for obvious reasons. Of course, in Erongo you have your mining sector, and you have your fishing sector; it's an economic hub. Your |Khomas region of course, is the centre; it's your capital city and it attracts a lot of people. You have around 482,000 people; it's a good sixth of the whole country."

Sakaria said, comparing from the year 1991, 70% of Namibia's population lived in rural areas; however, that number now stands at around 50%, and 50% lives in urban areas.
