Congratulatory messages continue to pour in for the newly appointed Director General of the NBC, Menesia Muinjo, with local and international partners expressing strong support and confidence in the broadcaster's future direction.

Expressing her gratitude, the director general says the overwhelming messages of encouragement, wisdom and goodwill from stakeholders, media partners and the public affirm a shared commitment to strengthening NBC's mammoth mandate of delivering reliable and audience-focused content.

Among those who extended their support are key international bodies such as the Public Media Alliance and the African Union of Broadcasters, both described as critical partners in advancing public broadcasting standards.

Acknowledging the scale of the responsibility ahead, the director general emphasised that the task is mammoth but achievable through collaboration with NBC staff and stakeholders.

At the core of the new leadership's vision is a firm commitment to editorial independence and ethical journalism.

The director general stressed that newsroom operations, including scripting and content preparation, will remain strictly independent, guided by professionalism, impartiality, and strong ethical standards.

"Editorial independence is critical. Yes, we do listen to our audience. That's why we have focus groups or stakeholder engagements. But when it comes to strictly news scripting or preparations, that is entirely up to our team in the newsroom. And also, our generalised ethics are critical. That's a no-go area. Each one has to ensure that we are independent, we are impartial, and we also carry our ethics every time, everywhere we go. And with the current growth of media out there, some of them, their own grassroots, also they have decided to, or they have actually come at a level where they can also be their own journalists. All that we have to do is to ensure that our product is reliable, is trustworthy."

In an evolving media landscape where audiences increasingly generate and share their own content, the director general highlighted the need for NBC to remain a trusted source of verified information, adding that NBC should continue to serve as a validation point for accurate information.
The broadcaster's multilingual reach was also underscored as a key strength, enabling audiences across Namibia, particularly in rural areas, to access information in their preferred languages.

The Director General further called on the public to actively engage with the broadcaster, emphasising that audience feedback is essential for continuous improvement.

"We are aware that some areas are still in need of our network that's being attended to. But otherwise, trust us, we'll be there. And like I always say, if there is anything that we need to improve on, we are here."

The appointment marks a new chapter for the national broadcaster, with expectations high for strengthened credibility, inclusivity, and public trust.
