Christians across Namibia marked Easter Sunday by commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, viewing it as the cornerstone of their faith and a source of renewed hope.
Worshippers gathered to reflect on the significance of the day, emphasising how Christ's victory over death underpins their ministry and promises new beginnings.
Pastor Ferdinand Otto of the Apostolic Faith Mission highlighted the resurrection as the "backbone" of Christian belief. "As we commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as Christians, it is actually the backbone of our ministry," Otto said. "If Jesus did not rise, we would have no gospel to preach."
He drew a parallel to the raising of Lazarus, noting opposition from authorities. "I made the comparison with the one he raised himself—being Lazarus—that the authorities, the priests, and all those people who saw it at that point in time wanted the actual happenings of his resurrection to be covered up," Otto explained. "And in fact, the Bible says they tried to kill him. In this instance, they had killed the one who raised that one."
Senior Evangelist Monica Joseph of Model Prayer Ministry described Easter as a timeless celebration of Christ's unchanging nature. "Christ was crucified many years ago, but we still continue in that way because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever," she said.
Joseph linked the resurrection to personal renewal. "So we are ending it today because anything that was buried—the destiny, the life, the blessings, the good opportunities, and the favour that was buried by the enemy—Christ brings it to life," she added. "A new life, a new beginning, and a new hope with faith has been given unto us by our Lord Jesus Christ. And He promised us: He said He will be with us... up to the end of time."
She concluded with gratitude: "We are here to say thank you for Christ, who died and brought life to us... Lord, I thank you for opening a new chapter in our lives."
