A former learner of Impalila Combined School in the Zambezi Region, Brian Shamalaza, has given back to the school by donating school uniforms and accessories to needy learners.
The donation benefited 73 learners from Grade 1 to Grade 11.
Shamalaza and his family procured items worth N$70 000, including school trousers, skirts, jerseys, shoes, scientific calculators and sports kits.
Salufu Mwazi, the school's head of department for mathematics and science, received the donation on behalf of the school.
"We appreciate this good gesture in trying to think back home, in trying to plough back home, we really appreciate, we hope it's not gonna end here, there's still allot of projects that are going around the school, where we still need for other stakeholders to come in, therefore we hope they are going to get a very good example from Mr Shamalaza," he said.
Shamalaza reached out to the school to better understand its needs after noticing that some learners did not have complete school uniforms.
"We thought of buying the school uniform now in the beginning of the year so that at least the learners can feel inclusive at the beginning of the year, other items that the school and us have identified are in terms of laptops, lab equipment, printers, catridges, those are still on the list, so we really edge those past learners that have went through this school, also to come on board to help us that we can now contribute together and buy those bigger items," Shamalaza said.
The initiative is expected to ease the burden on vulnerable learners and improve learning conditions.
