Kavango West Regional Council has stated that the construction of an office park and 12 community toilets ranks among its major achievements for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The council held a one-week performance review for the 2025/2026 financial year, at Rundu to improve governance, service delivery, and accountability.
Public Relations Officer at Kavango West Regional Council, Matheus Hamutenya, says the council achieved 70% during the 2024/2025 financial year compared to 74% during the 2025/2026 financial year.
"One of the things that we might have achieved is the construction of toilets. Despite lagging behind a bit, I think we have done quite well. In all eight constituencies, we have managed to construct 12 toilets.
"And then, of course, we are almost completing our office park, which will be a very, very huge achievement for the regional council, as we will now be able to have an office space where we can have all the employees in under one room. So I think those are some of the major achievements that we have seen this financial year.
"Yes, maybe overall, to say that in terms of performance, and also in terms of the planned activities, we have seen a 4% increase in our performance," he noted.
Hamutenya states that the performance review will ensure that the council plans better moving forward and executes more effectively during the 2026/2027 financial year.
"All in all, it's effective service delivery. We want to ensure that people have access to water. We want to ensure that people have access to proper toilets. So, all in all, it's delivering proper service to the residents of Kavango West Region. I mean, to ensure that we pull our people out of poverty.
"You know, we are usually decked the poorest region. Our vision is to really see that each and every person in Kavango West has access to services, and then the poverty levels are lowered," he said.
Hamutenya stated that financial constraints are one of the biggest challenges faced in the year under review; however, the council has managed to work with the limited resources received.
