The GIZ partnership in Namibia has donated a Community Information Centre in Rundu aimed at improving daily life for residents of Ndama location.

Ulrike Mezger, Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy, said:
“It is the first of its kind in Namibia. It's the first community information centre, bringing basic services to the settlement. You no longer need to go to Home Affairs or the Council. You save money and transport, and you will hopefully receive better services soon. It is also a space for you to unite, hold events, communicate, enjoy, and foster a growing community.”

Kavango East Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka remarked:
“In the past, many residents had to walk long distances under the harsh sun and through deep sand to reach offices in town. There, they would stand in long queues just to access basic services. Business as usual means changing that reality. It means that within a few minutes, people can access services closer to where they live.”

Sam Nekaro, Strategic Executive for Finance and IT at Rundu Town Council, added:
“Residents will be able to see their current plots, receive certificates of recognition, follow up on projects, and understand progress. We also need to improve access to sanitation, especially for women and young girls. This centre will be a place for community meetings, where young people can access computers and the internet. A place that supports learning, growth, and opportunities.”

The facility cost approximately N$1.3 million.
