Zambia’s High Commissioner to Namibia, Stephen Katuka, emphasized the vital role of young people as partners in community development during National Youth Week in Windhoek, which celebrated Commonwealth Day under the theme "Unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth."

Katuka said, “Young people are not mad in the details of tomorrow. They are the partners of today. Across the media and the Commonwealth at large, young people are innovative, leading and challenging the status quo. They are involved in renewals, creating jobs, advocating, promoting social justice, and driving development in their communities. However, many young people continue to face barriers, including limited access to education and unemployment.”

He added, “These challenges require deliberate and coordinated action. That is why gatherings such as this one are so important. They provide a platform for dialogue between generations, policymakers and youth, and between nations.”

Maggy Beukes-Amiss, Africa Representative of the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth of Learning, called on youth to actively engage in Commonwealth scholarships.
