NBC Director General Menesia Muinjo has highlighted the need for more business-related content on the broadcaster's platforms.

Muinjo made the remarks during a visit by the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa Financial Journalism Training Program.

The Bloomberg financial training programme was launched in nine African countries, including Namibia, to strengthen financial journalism.

The programme aims to equip media practitioners with the skills to interpret financial statements and accurately identify and report issues such as fraud and corruption.

Thus, the director general says the Financial Journalism Training Programme comes at the right time to upskill NBC employees.

"We still need to do more, and we see this through our news and programmes. We don't really have more business content, apart from one or two items in terms of programmes, whether on radio or television. When we have such opportunities, it's good to join and become part of this so that our people can learn and experience." Muinjo said

Organised in collaboration with NUST and IUM, the programme offers a seven-month training course, targeting media personalities, finance professionals, and public relations experts.

Bloomberg's database provides access to financial information for all companies worldwide, aiding journalists in verifying their reports.

Country Program Manager of the Bloomberg Training Program, Lameck Odada, said, "But it's no longer the normal classroom where a lecturer stands and just writes things on the board for teachers. It's going to be a very interactive thing. That's why we are bringing the media personality, the public relations, the people of finance, and non-finance, like the insurance people, together in one room.

The programme will be launched in Windhoek on 25 November.

Nashilongo Gervasius-Nakale, the Country Marketing Coordinator of the Bloomberg Training Program, said. "This intake, we are looking at 50 intakes for the country; 80% of that should be media personnel, and the other 20 would be from the financial sectors."

Qualifying candidates are encouraged to visit the website of Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa and apply online.
