The Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Modestus Amutse has inaugurated the National Steering Committee on the Informal Economy.
The initiative will focus on strengthening national coordination, policy development, and targeted interventions aimed at supporting the development and transformation of informal economic activities.
“According to two major studies conducted on the performance of the informal economy, the informal economy remains one of the largest drivers of employment and income in the country, accounting for 58% of the workforce, of which 59.8% are located in rural areas. This underscores the catalytic nature of the informal economy and its potential to contribute to the attainment not only of Vision 2030 but also of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
