Otjiwarongo Municipality has officially handed over the C28 route for rehabilitation, as part of a tripartite agreement with the Road Fund Administration and the Roads Authority.

The road links the industrial area to the major routes of Outjo and Kalkfeld.

Otjiwarongo Municipality Chief Executive Officer Mberipura Hifitikeko stated that it was "among the first roads to be constructed, underscoring its significance as an original connection. The condition of this road has practical implications for mobility, accessibility, and the movement of people and goods. Its rehabilitation must, therefore, be approached as an infrastructure project requiring proper technical planning, appropriate procurement, effective supervision, and compliance with applicable requirements."

Otjiwarongo Deputy Mayor Sebedeus Guiteb said the council remains committed to addressing the daily needs of the communities.

"No municipality operates in isolation. The development and maintenance of infrastructure involves various institutions working within their respective responsibilities. It is essential to find practical ways to collaborate where our interests align. Today's gathering serves as an opportunity to recognise the importance of cooperation between the municipality of Otjiwarongo, the road fund administration, and the road authority."

Otjozondjupa Regional Governor John ||Khamuseb said the road will complement the railway works.

"There is already a movement to rehabilitate the railway between Kalkfeld and Usakos, and work is currently commencing from Otjiwarongo to Kalkfeld. This means that the heavy load on our transport will be alleviated if Otjiwarongo becomes a sort of dry harbour, from which some of the heavier goods can be transferred to the road."

The road is being rehabilitated by China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) as part of the tripartite agreement of N$88 million.
