The Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Hans Haikali, said he is not impressed with the pace of work on the Kamanjab-Khorixas road rehabilitation project.
Haikali made the remarks during an inspection visit to assess progress on the road project.
Haikali added the project has experienced delays and that the progress made so far does not meet expectations.
He stressed that contractors must deliver quality work and complete projects within the agreed timelines to improve road infrastructure and service delivery.
"I'm not impressed by the work being done, but RCC, being the contractor, promised us that we will finish the project in two years' time to come."
RCC Chief Executive Officer Dasius Nelumbu says project funding and the need for additional resources to move at the desired pace were challenges.
"In addition to that, train difficulties also contribute towards how you move on the project. You would see, as the minister is going to visit the site that we are drilling through a mountain to proceed towards, the courier came to this, which is a very good hydro that they are able to get to go, so they would go and at least see for themselves."
Community members also complain that locals are not employed on the project despite the ministry advocating for the employment of the locals.
"We approach the office of the regional government. We got a list from those two national leaderships. Of course we are not from here; most of us that are employed at the relationship level of the company and not from here will not be in the position of really identifying who is from Kamanjab."

Haikali says they will see to it that they bring services closer to the people.
