The City of Windhoek is migrating to a new prepaid electricity and water vending system as part of its efforts to modernise service delivery and keep its systems aligned with current technology.

The transition to the Pyxis system, which will replace the current Syntell system, will take place from 23h00 tonight until 01h00 tomorrow morning, during which residents will not be able to purchase prepaid electricity or water credits.

The migration involves moving the city's backend vending system to a new service provider, following the end of the previous system’s service period and the appointment of a new provider for the next five years.

Lydia Amutenya, Corporate Communications Head, says residents are not expected to experience significant changes, as customers will continue purchasing prepaid electricity and water through the existing platforms.

The City says existing prepaid meters, tokens and customer accounts will remain compatible with the new system, with no additional action required from customers.

Residents are therefore urged to purchase sufficient electricity and water units before the downtime, as no prepaid transactions will be possible during the two-hour transition period.
