Onehanga villagers in the Ohangwena Region started constructing a 7 kilometers Onehanga\Olukula feeder road.
The road leads to Onehanga Clinic which is under construction.
The same road is used by Onehanga villagers when they need medical treatment at the Olukula Health Center.
This area has sandy roads and to get from one place to another, one needs a 4x4 vehicle, which could take hours before reaching destinations.
The villagers wrote several letters to relevant authorities for the road to be upgraded to gravel.
However, they were allegedly told that there are no funds earmarked for that road.
The villagers decided to raise funds so that they could work on the road.
But only N$40 000 was pledged, of which only N$18 000 was in cash.
Villagers then kicked off with 400 meters sub-base of the road as part of phase one of that road construction.
Some villagers without 4x4 vehicles, normally use donkey carts to Olukula Health Center, and this could take hours.
The road is an ongoing project which will be worked on in portions, depending on the availability of funds.
Once completed, it will improve flexible accessibility to Olukula Health Center and school as well as to Onehanga Clinic.
The villagers have called on the line Ministry to visit rural areas in Ohangwena and familiarize themselves with the condition of roads and also see how people are struggling to reach various destinations,
