Well-known business personality Dr. Leake Hangala, founding executive chairman of the Hangala Group, has retired from the position, effective May 1, 2023.

The executive chairperson of the diversified group in the food, property, construction, and finance sectors will be succeeded by Evangelina Hamunyela, a long-serving board director in the group.

The company's board of directors decided to create a new position of Group Chief Executive Officer, which Pameni Hangala was appointed to, starting on May 1.

In a statement announcing the changes, Hangala Group says Dr. Hangala will serve as a non-executive director to help drive strategic growth in potential new areas of business for the group.

The group says that the new fields it wants to engage in are energy and agribusiness.

In his departing message, Dr. Hangala says he is happy to hand over the operations to a young, diverse, and dynamic management team to take the group to the next level.
