NPC President happy with Rio preparations

By: Katrina Gowases The President of the National Paralympic Committee of Namibia, Johannes Litwayi, is happy with the way Namibian para-athletes are preparing themselves for the Rio Olympics. The Namibian Paralympics team returned home with 16 medals from the IPC Grand Prix in London, United Kingdom and welcomed another gold medal collected by sprinter Johanna Benson on Friday. The competition was also part of the team’s preparations. "We have prepared our athletes of team Namibia very well from the support and all the assistance we got from the ministry, we have been putting our athletes in the camp to prepare them. We went to Berlin and we achieved our goals" explained Litwayi. The final squad for the Paralympic Games was confirmed by Litwayi during an Olympic farewell event in Windhoek over the weekend. The Namibian team consists of 11 athletes, with the number rising to 16, including their guides. "I know in the Olympics we are going to come back with Gold medals without any fear" Litwayi exclaimed. The Paralympics team will leave for Brazil on the 29th of August to acclimatise, before the games kick off in September.
