President Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah says the pain and impact of the 1904–1908 genocide continue to be felt generations later.

The Erongo Governor has invited residents to gather in big numbers at Swakopmund to honour the victims of the 1904 to 1908 Ovaherero and Nama genocide during Genocide Remembrance Day commemorations next week.

Social commentator Sam Kauapirura believes more still needs to be done to incorporate genocide studies into the national school curriculum.

The commemoration, organisedby the Nama Traditional Leaders Association was held at Shark Island in Luderitz.

The documentary raises questions about apology, justice and reconciliation, more than a century later.

A ruling by a full bench of the Windhoek High Court has shifted the trajectory of the legal fight over the 2021 Namibia-Germany joint declaration on the 1904-08 Ovaherero and Nama genocide. 

The court has decided not to add Germany as a respondent in the case, at least for the time being.

Some members of the Ovaherero community, led by Professor Mutjinde Katjiua, held a commemoration today marking the anniversary of the 1904 extermination order against the Ovaherero and Nama people.
