IPC MP Lilian Lutuhezi questioned the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare (MGECW) on whether systems are in place to support the mental health of social workers, given their daily exposure to trauma experienced by other individuals.

The Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare (MGECW) says mothers can leave a child in a safe place at various identified places in accordance with the current Act, instead of abandoning them at unsafe sites. 

Still speaking at Katima Mulilo, Gender Equality and Child Welfare (MGECW) Minister Emma Kantema said that although technology is a powerful tool for empowerment, it has become a new frontier for violence that manifests in various forms.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare recently launched a Child-Friendly Material based on the Child Care and Protection Act.

The initiative aims to empower children with a clear understanding of their rights and the mechanisms available to safeguard them.

Officials from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and organisations dealing with gender-based violence in the Zambezi Region agree that a lack of infrastructure, equipment, and human resources are some challenges that need immediate attention.
