Namibia confirms first case of Mpox

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has confirmed Namibia’s first case of Mpox, following a positive test result from a patient in Swakopmund on Saturday.

This information was disclosed in a press statement by Health Minister Esperance Luvindao.

Rundu Intermediate Hospital ready for Mpox outbreak

The Medical Superintendent at the Rundu Intermediate Hospital, Dr. Jean Kabangu, says the institution is prepared should there be an outbreak of Mpox. 

Health workers already formed an emergency preparedness committee with various staff on standby. 

Surveillance Mechanism in place to detect Mpox- MoHSS

The Executive Director in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, says mechanisms are in place to detect and maintain if Mpox hits our shores.

The Africa Centre for Disease Control has declared the ongoing Mpox outbreak a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security.
