South African workers have launched a sit-in over 'broken promises', demanding permanent jobs.

Trade unions and workers marched through Johannesburg on Wednesday to demand permanent jobs, the insourcing of outsourced workers, and the reinstatement of dismissed employees.

The Minister of Justice and Labour Relations, Wise Immanuel, emphasised that the government cannot compel private companies to employ workers permanently but can enforce the minimum wage order.

The Namibia Post and Telecom Holdings Limited (NPTH) has secured permanent employment for 11 of its staff members at NamPost and Telecom Namibia starting January 2, 2025, and efforts are underway to secure placements for remaining employees with settlement packages under negotiation.
