Namibia has ratified a convention of workers with family responsibilities.

Fourth-year law students from the University of Namibia (UNAM) have partnered with the Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (NARETU) to offer training to shop stewards on how to better represent workers in a changing working environment. 

Labour expert Herbert Jauch said that uniformed workers being excluded from the Labour Act is a draconian approach that contradicts the Constitution and Namibia's own Labour Act.

He believes there must be mechanisms for affected members to raise concerns collectively so that justice is done.

600 temporary workers at Hangana Seafood have officially submitted a petition to management claiming discrimination and unfair labour practices.

Many of these workers say they have been on temporary contracts since 2018 and now seek permanent jobs. 

Today is International Workers Day, and President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the government remains committed to fostering an enabling environment through targeted interventions towards improving the livelihoods of the workers.

All preparations are underway for tomorrow's International Workers Day celebration at Oshakati Independence Stadium. 

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to deliver the keynote address flanked by various ministers and unionists, among others. 

Some workers of the government's green scheme, the Orange River Irrigation Project (ORIP) at Aussenkehr, have voiced frustrations over being excluded from the government pension, GIPF.

Some workers are members of the GIPF, while others are not, leading the workers to claim discrimination against them.
