Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa paid tribute to the country's liberation fighters on Monday as Zimbabwe marked its 46th National Heroes' Day in Harare under the theme "Lest We Forget".

Swapo veteran Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana has explained that the Women's Council Congress traditionally precedes the main Swapo Congress and therefore sets the tone.

She urged members to strictly follow the party's constitution and founding documents instead of relying on popular opinion.

Former deputy mayor of Rundu, Toini Hausiku, was buried at the Mbunza Royal Cemetery at Kapako in the Kavango West Region over the weekend. 

Hausiku, who was also the widow of liberation struggle icon Marco Hausiku, died on the 19th of July in a Windhoek hospital from cancer. 

Family, friends, and loved ones describe the late Toini Hausiku as an inspiring and loving woman who believed in uniting everybody.

Hausiku was a former Deputy Mayor of Rundu as well as the widow of liberation struggle icon Marco Hausiku.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has met with families of some of Namibia's fallen liberation fighters, including Augustus Nghaamwa, known by his combat name, McNamara, in an emotional moment that unfolded in the Kongwa District of the Dodoma Region.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed her appreciation to Tanzania for its support during the struggle for independence.

The head of state expressed her gratitude when she toured various sites in Tanzania's Kongwa District, a place that holds historical records for Namibia.

Namibia is commemorating the life and legacy of Founding President Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma on 12th May, with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah celebrating the liberation icon whose leadership significantly influenced the country's independence and democratic foundations.

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare says the 12 May Movement was established to instill nationalism, patriotism, and unity among Namibia's youth by preserving the legacy of Founding President Sam Nujoma and the country's liberation struggle. 

The community of Kamupupu Village in the Kavango West Region held a moment of prayer honouring the lives that were lost at Kamupupu Village during the period of the liberation struggle.
